Nutritionists: Good ‘Medicine’ is in Our Food
A nutritionist is a health specialist who believes food has the medicine that we, as humans, require to maintain a state of good health. Nutritionists devote their professional activities to nutritional science, preventative measures, and diseases related to nutritional deficiencies, and manipulate nutritional intakes in order to induce the desired response in the human body.
Dietitians are Food and Nutrition Specialists
The term “Dietitian” is protected by law in Canada, and only those who are members of the provincial regulatory bodies and who have had the necessary education, can label themselves as a dietitian. In the United States, Registered Dietitian, Dietetic Technician Registered, and Dietitian are all legally protected terms given to professionals who have the required credentials.
Dietitians are experts in food and nutrition and participate in research, the service of food, create modified and personal diet programs, and educate individuals on good nutritional habits.
Nutritious Lifestyles Contribute to Healthy Aging
Good nutrition is a key factor in overall healthy aging and quality of life for older adults and seniors. As we age, our lifestyles become altered and our metabolism changes (may naturally become slower and less efficient). Nutritionists and dietitians for seniors can advise and educate in regards to proper eating habits and key nutrients needed at this stage of life.
Eating healthy is a habit. It is a way of life. Making sure that our bodies get the nutrients they need – especially in our older adult and senior years – is a vital part of positive aging. A nutritionist or dietitian can help you understand food and plan your diet to meet the needs of your body.
