Senior Dating - Great First Date Ideas

Dating is not only for the young, but also for the young at heart. Dating for seniors has become increasingly popular over the years. The growth of the online dating market has spawned new love among many older adults, and even if “true love” isn’t in the picture, senior dating provides an opportunity for social engagement with others who share similar interests.
Have a look at a few of these fabulous first date ideas for seniors to help you and your chosen other get started on the right foot!

Dancing is a popular choice for senior dates. A fun, lively and exciting activity, your dancing date gives you an opportunity to learn about one another while you’re out on the dance floor showing your favorite moves. There are many dance companies and private dance teachers who offer ballroom, Latin, line dancing and many other age-specific classes for seniors. Be sure to choose a skill level both you and your date are comfortable with, then sign up and enjoy! Often times, seniors’ dance classes are offered at an attractive discount (and sometimes even free) which makes this first date idea entertaining and highly economical.

Dinner and a Movie

If you’re someone who likes to keep things simple, don’t over think the first date. The same dating activities you enjoyed when you were younger are still great choices now.  How about the traditional dinner and a movie? Allow one partner to pick the movie and the other to choose a restaurant. This first date idea has stood up to the test of time, offering the perfect mix of conversation and entertainment.

Community Event

Participate in a community event. Have your first date take place at the local playhouse, a live musical performance, or a social night at the community center in town.  You certainly don’t need to travel far to have a great first date – stay local and enjoy a favorably priced date night.  Choose a venue and activity you’ll both enjoy and be sure to buy tickets or make reservations ahead of time if needed.

Why Not Exercise?

Are you the always-moving, on-the-go, adventurous type?   Consider a fun physical activity for your first date. Go for a bike ride, play a light game of tennis, walk the neighborhood, or go bowling! Burn calories and get your blood flowing while you spend time with a new partner. Try a brand new sport or one you already know and enjoy.

Go Back in Time

Consider holding your first date at a historical spot or special venue in your community. Visit a museum, library or famous monument. The atmosphere is sure to be an instant conversation starter and the setting of a date you’ll always remember. Try a new attraction that neither of you has been to before or choose a location you know well so you can educate your partner on the historical significance of the area. This is a great way to learn about each other’s interests and teach one another new things to keep your minds fresh and engaged as you socialize.

Be Spontaneous

Senior dating is a wonderful opportunity for you to find friendship and even romance later in life. Don’t fixate on perfection but instead be spontaneous, easy going and open to new suggestions.  You never know what lies just around the corner as you open your doors into the wonderful world of senior dating.
